Choosing The Right Diamond Solitaire
A diamond solitaire is one single diamond placed in a setting that intensifies the stone, not overwhelming it but accenting it. The stone should be as close to perfect as possible. It should attract attention and be seen by itself or with extra stones surrounding it. It can be made in a selection of cuts from basic to complex. It might be a round brilliant, the most popular cut today or a marquise, cushion, Asscher, oval, radiant, emerald, or princess as well as any other fancy cut.
The diamond solitaire comes in several sizes from as few as.10 carat and set in yellow gold or white gold as well as platinum. Yasuko Azuma makes a textured band with a round brilliant solitaire .10 carat set in white gold. The lines of the piece looks amazing. The diamond is excellently displayed and very eye catching.
A diamond solitaire should be purchased for its clearness, color, cut and carat weight. Clearness is the inclusions and external imperfections. Inclusions are a diamond's birthmarks and there are almost no diamonds without inclusions or blemishes. These hard to find diamonds without inclusions, imperfections or blemishes are extremely valuable because of their scarcity.
Color refers to the clear diamonds all the way to diamonds purchased specially for their unique colorations. The less color a diamond has the more valuable. White diamonds are found clear to tints of brown or yellow.
Cut is of course the 58 facets carved out of a diamond to expose its sparkle or dispersion of light into colors, its scintillation or light when the diamond moves and the brilliancy or the total light reflected from the diamond. It can have as few as 58 faces or as much as 82 faces which is the trademark of Kessler's diamonds.
Carat weight relies on the carat being split into 100 points. The truth is that most diamonds weigh less than one carat. Diamonds are measured to one thousandth of a carat and their caratage is rounded to the closest hundredth. Cost is a major factor even for the smallest of weight variations. Every one hundredth is one point, so if a diamond weighs more than one carat, the extra weight is expressed in points. A 1.09 carat diamond is one carat and nine points.
Buying a diamond solitaire ought to be accompanied by a good gem education to depend upon, beginning with the 4 C's: clearness, cut, carats and colour. Once you have obtained that basic understanding, decide what your cash can buy and what's all right to you. Then go shopping for the best gemstone your money can buy.

Is this a decent price for an engagement ring?
.43 ct, HI, VS2/SI1, 14K white gold solitaire, $1350. It's not certified, but the business is family owned and has been in the community for a very long time and I trust them. Thoughts? Also, my fiance to be has very dainty hands (5 1/2), would this be a decent size?
What is the cut of the stone? I did a quick search on blue nile and a "very good" cut stone with the same characteristics as above (I color, SI1, 0.42 carat) is $713, while an H color, SI1, 0.43 carat, "ideal cut" stone is $1,326.
My ring size is about the same, and I think that a 0.43 carat would be nice.
