Park And Pedalo Ride: Royal Parks And London Hotels
Despite being one of the largest cities in the world, London still boasts an impressive amount of green space and parkland, which can provide welcome respite from the busy streets, relentless pace and, sometimes, choking atmosphere. Many of the city’s parks and natural attractions are within easy reach of central London hotels, and are popular with tourists and locals alike.
Greenwich Park, for example, in the south east of London is one of the most popular and largest Royal Parks in the city and offers spectacular views overlooking the capital - a view that was famously depicted by JMW Turner. Among the principal attractions in Greenwich Park are the herds of Fallow and Red, the Royal Observatory and the National Maritime Museum. Londoners decamp en masse to Greenwich to picnic and to enjoy the sunny spells throughout the summer months. For guests at central London hotels, the easiest way of getting to Greenwich is to hop on the eastbound Jubilee Line.
Right in the heart of the city, Hyde Park is 142 hectares of historic parkland. Given the wide variety of indigenous and non-indigenous trees, the number of horse riders and the sheer size of the Serpentine, it’s easy to forget that you’re just a short walk from the bustling pavements of Piccadilly and Oxford Street. Visitors to Hyde Park can pop in to the Serpentine Art Gallery, take a pedalo out on the lake or simply grab a cup of tea and quick bite to eat at the Lido cafe. Moreover, Hyde Park is ideally situated in close vicinity to some of the most exclusive London hotels, such as the Ritz and Mandarin Oriental.
Regent’s Park is an expanse of beautifully landscaped parkland that was designed by the celebrated regency architect John Nash and which boasts an impressively wide range of things to see and do.Take a stroll round the Rose Garden which has over 400 wonderfully fragrant varieties. One of the main attractions in Regent’s Park, however, is London Zoo, the world’s oldest scientific zoo, with highlights such as the Gorilla Kingdom and Komodo Dragon enclosure. Finally, for picturesque views of the city down below and a good photo opportunity, it’s worth heading to the top of Primrose Hill.
